Personal Message

Friends of the Children - Seattle impacts generational change by empowering youth who are facing the greatest obstacles through relationships with salaried, professional mentors – for 12+ years, no matter what.

Funding would help us provide long-term, consistent and intensive professional mentoring to the growing number of children and youth in our program who need us the most.

We support children facing the highest risk of long-term poor outcomes, and select them from schools serving high poverty populations and from foster care through our partnerships with Seattle Public Schools, Washington Department of Social and Health Services’ Department of Children, Youth and Families and Childhaven. Our youth live in low-income neighborhoods in the Seattle area – primarily in Rainier Beach/Skyway and South Park – and South King County.

Our approach is data-driven and based on relationship-building and long-term support, and results include:

-92% of youth go on to enroll in post-secondary education, serve our country or enter the workforce.

-85% of youth earn a high school diploma or a GED.

-93% of youth remain free from juvenile justice system involvement

-93% of youth wait to parent until after their teen years
